Health Sciences High & Middle College (HSHMC) is sharing information about a recent data security incident involving Educational Testing Service (ETS), a nonprofit organization contracted by the California Department of Education to administer certain state and federal assessments. The incident occurred within ETS systems, not HSHMC systems, and there is no indication that HSHMC’s systems were affected.
According to ETS, the information accessed did not include Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, financial account information, credit or debit card information, or account passwords. ETS also reports that no parent or guardian personal information was involved in the incident.
ETS is notifying affected California students and families directly. As a precaution, ETS is offering two years of complimentary identity protection services through Experian IdentityWorks to affected current and former students.
We understand that news of a data security incident can be concerning for families. At this time, there is no indication that the accessed information has been misused. We encourage families to review any communications they receive from ETS, including information about the identity protection services and instructions for enrollment. For additional information, please visit the California Department of Education’s webpage: Educational Testing Service (ETS) Incident – Incident Notices.
For questions about the incident or the available identity protection services, families should refer directly to the information provided by ETS. Because the incident involved ETS systems rather than HSHMC systems, our school does not have additional details beyond those shared by ETS.
Thank you for your attention to this important information.
