Short Term Independent Study Contract

Prevent unexcused absences and help maintain school funding with these simple steps

What is a Short-Term Independent Study Contract?

A contract allows students to complete their schoolwork while they are away from campus (for travel, family obligations, or personal needs).

  • Contract does not apply for illness (sick days are excused separately).

  • Work completed through short-term contract clears absences and counts for both academic credit and attendance credit (ADA).

  • All assignments must be completed and turned in within 5 school days of return.

How to Get a Contract

Before you leave:

  • Come to the front office or see Mr. Davenport (Dean of Students) to request a Short-Term Independent Study Contract.
  • Share the dates you’ll be absent and your reason for requesting .

Pick up your contract:

  • You will receive two forms:

1. Master Agreement (signatures required)

2. Assignment Contract (lists your work for each class)

  • Parent/guardian and student must sign before the contract starts.

During the Contract

  • Complete all assignments for each class listed.

  • Stay in contact with teachers if you need clarification.

  • Save at least one work sample from each subject (required for credit).

Completing & Submitting Work

  • Deadline: All work must be submitted within 5 days of returning to school.

  • Turn in work to Luis in the office or your assigned ISP teacher.

  • Your teachers will review and mark your contract as:

    • Complete – Full attendance and credit earned.

    • Partial – Some attendance credit earned.

    • Not Complete – No attendance or academic credit.

Why It Matters

  • Short term contracts prevent unexcused absences.

  • They protect your grades and keep you on track for graduation.

  • They save ADA funding for the school, which supports programs and resources for all students.
