Weekly Bulletin – April 18th, 2021

April 18th, 2021- Weekly School Bulletin Quarter 3 grades were mailed home on Friday, 4/16/21. If your child is holding an incomplete from Quarter 3 he or she has been assigned to an Academic Intervention class at 10:00 am. Attendance is mandatory at this class until all incompletes are cleared. It is also expected that any student who holds an incomplete in any course is actively taking advantage of teachers' online office hours and resources we have put in place to support their academic efforts.  Students who do not make an effort to clear their incompletes are at risk of failing the course. This Wednesday, April 21, we will be holding a meeting for students who are going to a four-year university this fall. The “Now That You Have Been Accepted” information meeting will be from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. The Zoom link for the meeting will be emailed to students ahead of time. If you have questions, or just want to touch base, I am holding Principal’s Office Hours (password: HSHMC) via Zoom at 9:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. The Zoom link is available on our website. I can also be reached by email anytime at sjohnson@hshmc.org. Have a good and safe week. Thank you.

Staff Highlight: Karen Spadafora – April 15th, 2021

KAREN CONTINUES TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS IN-PERSON AND ONLINE Karen is supporting students during the first phase of in-person learning. She is so excited to meet some of our new HSHMC students for the first time and continue growing relationships! Along with in-person support, she also continues working with our English Learners, ultimately preparing them for the ELPAC. Karen also loves popping into classes and working with students one-on-one and in small breakout groups on a daily basis to help students with their current assignments and to get caught up on any missing assignments. She appreciates the opportunities to meet with her students and their families, where she gets to hear about their aspirations and goals after their time with us at HSHMC. "I am proud of all my students on my caseload and their perseverance throughout distance learning and now transitioning to in-person learning!"

Staff Highlight: Mikayla Haywood – April 8th, 2021

MIKAYLA FOSTERS CRITICAL THINKING IN HER CLASS Mikayla co-teaches 12th grade English with Dr. Lapp and receives support from Dr. Ilko. She ensures that students are engaged and learning by checking for understanding and asking students to explain the lesson in their own words to each other. Mikayla uses break-out rooms to meet with students in small groups to help them generate ideas for their writing. Mikayla is extremely proud of all of her students, especially the meaningful discussions they have with their peers. "I want to thank Dr. Lapp and Dr. Ilko for supporting me and providing me feedback as I continue my journey as a first year teacher. I receive the same support from them and the staff at HSHMC as I give to my students and it makes me feel connected to everyone even though I haven't met them in person."

Weekly Bulletin – April 4th, 2021

April 4th, 2021- Weekly School Bulletin We hope you and your family had a wonderful spring break. As we return to school tomorrow, please note that Quarter 3 ends this Friday, April 8, 2021. Quarter 3 grades will be mailed out the following week. Please check your child’s grades to be sure they are working to clear any incompletes they may have prior to the end of the third quarter. We will be handing out school supplies for Quarter 4 classes this Thursday, April 8, 2021 and Friday, April 9, 2021 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am outside at HSHMC (with social distance measures in place). Please come by on either day to pick up your child’s supplies so they are ready to begin the new quarter on Monday, April 12th. Notifications will be sent tomorrow to those who have supplies to be picked up. If you or your child do not receive notification, it means that your child already has everything he or she needs for their 4th quarter classes and you do not need to come by. Now that our students all have their new MacBooks, please return the Chromebook that was assigned to your child when you come to pick up supplies. If you do not have any supplies to pick up, we will be arranging a time for you to return the Chromebook very soon. This Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 3:30 to 4:30 our college team is hosting a Community College Application Session for our current seniors attending community college in the fall. A Zoom link to participate has been sent out to all seniors. To continue to inform and involve families in our efforts to design the most exciting, engaging and effective education for our student body, we invite you parents and guardians to take our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) survey. The survey and more information about the LCAP can been found on our website at www.hshmc.org under the “About” tab.  Your opinion matters. If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to visit our site and take the survey. (Or click here to go directly to the survey available in English and Spanish.) If you have questions, or just want to touch base, I am holding Principal’s Office Hours (password: HSHMC) via Zoom at 9:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. The Zoom link is available on our website. I can also be reached by email anytime at sjohnson@hshmc.org. Have a good and safe week. Thank you.
