Students learning fire safety from Health Sciences High cadets during Fire Prevention Week Assembly

Inspiring the Next Generation: Fire Prevention Week Assembly at Central Elementary

Last month, Health Sciences High students visited Central Elementary to host an informative and inspiring assembly for Fire Prevention Week. They not only educated students on critical safety practices—like calling 911, staying low during a fire, and the classic “stop, drop, and roll”—but also aimed to inspire the next generation, showing them that with determination, they can achieve anything they set their minds to.

Reflecting on the experience, firefighter Joel Ebstein from San Diego Fire & Rescue shared, “It’s awesome to see these elementary students engage with Health Sciences High cadets and know that they can do this in the near future.”

Cadets like Bella Nunez, Class of ‘26, demonstrated impressive ladder skills and speed in donning fire gear, which was especially inspiring for the young girls in the audience.

Captain Swift, instructor of the Health Sciences Fire Rescue Academy, emphasized the impact of representation: “It’s nice when you get to see someone that looks like you in the uniform. It shows you that this is a possibility.”

The assembly’s message was clear: anyone can become a firefighter if they work hard and persevere through challenges.
