The last two days before break, Health Sciences High hosted an event that made a meaningful impact on families in our community. On December 19th and 20th, over 220 grocery bags filled with non-perishable items were distributed to anyone in need.
This effort was more than just a seasonal initiative. As one student volunteer shared during the event:
“We can help our community throughout the whole year. Not just in one specific moment in time.”
A Unified Effort
The event was a true community effort, with staff and students working together to prepare and distribute the bags. Families drove through the school drop-off area, where they were met with kindness and care, leaving with the essentials they needed to help make their season a little brighter.
A special thanks to Angel Garcia, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7420, Salute 2 Heroes, and San Diego Social Leagues for their assistance in helping to acquire the food for this event!
Introducing the Community Pantry
This event marked the beginning of the Health Sciences Community Pantry—a long-term project designed to provide consistent support to families experiencing food insecurity. While this effort began during the holiday season, the need extends throughout the year, and so does our commitment.
How You Can Help
To ensure the pantry’s success, we’re asking for the community’s support:
- Donate Online: Visit this webpage to make a monetary contribution. Every dollar helps us stock the pantry with essentials.
- Drop Off Non-Perishable Goods: Bring canned goods, pasta, rice, and other non-perishables to Health Sciences High during school hours.
Moving Forward Together
This event was only the first step. With your support, we can expand the pantry and ensure that no family in our community has to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible—our incredible students, staff, and community partners. Your efforts have set the foundation for a project that will continue to make a difference well into the future.
