Staff Highlight: Vanessa Casanova – May 20th, 2021
VANESSA IS ALWAYS READY TO LISTEN! Vanessa is our School Social Worker. To support students she checks in with them during their class time on Zoom in breakout rooms, through texts and phone calls, as well as in person since we have been on campus. She always tries to make sure the students feel comfortable to talk to her about whatever is on their mind, be it school-related or not, so she can best support their social-emotional needs and hopefully get them more engaged in their academics as a result of that connection. "I enjoy getting to know the students and building positive relationships with them! Each student I have been able to talk to has their own story to tell, and I love hearing what they have to say.." One of our students recently told Ms. Casanova: "I'm happy there is someone at school I can talk to if I need to."
Vaccination Appointment Instructions
Vaccination Appointment Instructions We are excited to host three more Vaccination Clinics at HSHMC thanks to Sharp Healthcare! The next clinic is October 4, from 10:00 to 2:00PM. Future dates include 10/25 and 11/15. See below for instructions to make your appointment. If your child is already fully vaccinated, please remember to provide the school with a copy of the vaccination card for our records. Feel free to take a picture of the card and email it to gortega@hshmc.org, mail it in, or drop it by. Any way that is easiest for you to get it to us as soon as possible. Step 1: Go to https://myturn.ca.gov/ Step 2: Click “Make an Appointment” Step 3: Fill out the fields on the “Let’s Get Started” page Step 4: Enter the school's zip code: 92105 Step 5: Click “Schedule Appointment on the “Select Location” page. You will see HSHMC as an option. Step 6: Select the time that works best for you on the day of the Dose 1 vaccination event, then select the time that works best for you on the day of the Dose 2 vaccination event. Then, click “Continue.” Step 7: Fill out your personal and contact information, and then click “Complete Appointment.” If you have issues making your appointment, please contact HSHMC at (619) 528-9070
Weekly Bulletin – May 23rd, 2021
May 23rd, 2021- Weekly School Bulletin This week we will be administering the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). Our 11th grade students will be taking the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment for English language arts/literacy and mathematics. Our seniors will be taking the California Science Test. These tests will be administered during your child’s regularly scheduled classes. HSHMC will be holding another pop-up COVID-19 vaccination event with Sharp HealthCare on Friday, June 4 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for anyone 12 years or older. To make an appointment for yourself or a loved one please go to myturn.ca.gov, click on the “Start Here” link, fill out the fields on the “Let’s Get Started“ page, and at the bottom of the page you will see “Access Code.” The access code for our location is: SKYR99JH8X. The link and directions to make an appointment at our location can also be found on our website. We strongly encourage you to get vaccinations for all our HSHMC students, as we anticipate that vaccinations will be required in the future for access to campus and to internships. As a reminder, please be sure your child has completed the summer school registration form sent to their email. Summer school will begin on Monday, June 21. We are offering four sessions; each session will be three-weeks long, for three hours a day. The last day of the summer sessions ends on Thursday, July 29. More specific information on our summer session dates and times can be found on our website. Please note that there is no school this Friday, May 28 or Monday, May 31, in honor of Memorial Day. Virtual Super Saturday at Grossmont College
Virtual Super Saturday at Grossmont College Students interested in attending Grossmont in the fall are encouraged to attend "Virtual Saturday" on May 22 or June 5. During the session, students will complete: Online Orientation English & Math Placement Meet with a counselor to create an education plan Register here: http://is.gd/super2021 NOTE: If you did not take a college class during Spring 2021, you will need to complete the online application 3 days prior to the Saturday session.

May 16th, 2021- Weekly School Bulletin We had a fantastic turn out at our pop-up COVID-19 vaccination event last Thursday for those 16 years and older. With the COVID-19 vaccine now available to everyone 12 years and older, you can easily make an appointment for yourself or a loved one at myturn.ca.gov or walk in to one of the County of San Diego sites operated by Sharp HealthCare. In addition, HSHMC will be holding another pop-up vaccination site here at HSHMC on Friday, June 4 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. We will be sending out a link to make an appointment as soon as it is provided to us by Sharp. Those who received their vaccinations here last Thursday already have appointments to receive their 2nd doses on June 4. We are so honored to partner with Sharp and to provide a safe place for you, your family and our community to be vaccinated. As mentioned, we strongly encourage you to get vaccinations for all our HSHMC students, as we anticipate that vaccinations will be required in the future for access to campus and to internships. We will be having an information meeting this Thursday, May 20th from 3:00-4:00pm on Zoom for any 11th grade students and their parents who are planning or thinking of applying to a 4-year university in the fall. We will be sending the Zoom link to the 11th grade students and parents via email. A link will also be on our website by the end of this week.
