Weekly Bulletin – May 16th, 2021

May 16th, 2021- Weekly School Bulletin We had a fantastic turn out at our pop-up COVID-19 vaccination event last Thursday for those 16 years and older. With the COVID-19 vaccine now available to everyone 12 years and older, you can easily make an appointment for yourself or a loved one at myturn.ca.gov or walk in to one of the County of San Diego sites operated by Sharp HealthCare. In addition, HSHMC will be holding another pop-up vaccination site here at HSHMC on Friday, June 4 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. We will be sending out a link to make an appointment as soon as it is provided to us by Sharp. Those who received their vaccinations here last Thursday already have appointments to receive their 2nd doses on June 4. We are so honored to partner with Sharp and to provide a safe place for you, your family and our community to be vaccinated. As mentioned, we strongly encourage you to get vaccinations for all our HSHMC students, as we anticipate that vaccinations will be required in the future for access to campus and to internships. We will be having an information meeting this Thursday, May 20th from 3:00-4:00pm on Zoom for any 11th grade students and their parents who are planning or thinking of applying to a 4-year university in the fall. We will be sending the Zoom link to the 11th grade students and parents via email. A link will also be on our website by the end of this week. As a reminder, summer school registration forms were emailed to students last week. If you have not already done so, please check with your child to be sure they received the form and ask them to complete it. Summer school will begin on Monday, June 21. We are offering four sessions; each session will be three-weeks long, for three hours a day. The last day of the summer sessions ends on Thursday, July 29. More specific information on our summer session dates and times can be found on our website. If you have questions, or just want to touch base, I am holding Principal’s Office Hours (password: HSHMC) via Zoom at 9:00 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. The Zoom link is available on our website. I can also be reached by email anytime at sjohnson@hshmc.org. Have a good and safe week. Thank you.

Staff Highlight: Julieta Rios – May 13th, 2021

JULIETA PROVIDES WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS! Julieta is the 11th/12th grade transition counselor, working one-on-one with students through their transition goals. These include aspirations, wants, needs, and connecting students with outside resources in order to provide the best support system to help them accomplish their goals in the near future. She just completed her Master's Degree this May at SDSU in Rehabilitation Counseling where she needed to fulfill 450 hours of supervised, direct service/support. Because of HSHMC she fulfilled her final round of hours and was able to graduate and continue to help serve our students/community. Julieta feels proud of all her students and how much they have grown and benefited throughout the transition support services both Julieta and Ms. Fischmann provide. One student that stands out is Daniel! He is one of 20 participants throughout the We Can Work grant who is working as a store associate at a 3-D printing gaming/graphic design studio. He is working on applying to San Diego City College to continue learning and growing in the Graphic Design field with the help of Julieta and Mr Beam. "I absolutely love working at HSHMC! The amount of support and appreciation throughout the faculty is phenomenal. The family-oriented environment from everyone continues to make my day!" - Julieta
